WiFi Stuff

It’s nice those networks with WiFi, but I think wireless is TOO much expensive still.
It’s nice to see the development of all kind of initiatives here locally in Holland but I think it is to early yet.

Try to find an IN-expensive AccessPoint with the possibility to add an external bi-directional antenna (building your own is not allowed). Psst do not forget to buy the correct connectors. Good Luck!

Question

Someone knows how a Compaq Ipaq 3870 can work with CF Wifi card and then gets streaming media from Microsoft’s Media Player? (I’ve Shoutcast and Media Encoder running. But the Ipaq cannot find the stream?
Or maybe an IPAQ Winamp Player for Shoutcast? Anyone?

Busy

Very busy with work today. First a meeting with PCM (VNU) about an article. In a few hours a (technical) product training for sales and a big customer.

Now also looking to a Compaq Ipaq with Bluetooth .. Kewl ..
I have some bluetooth stuff here I need to test so this is very nice stuff which I can try.

Wireless, XML/RSS stuff I like .. But time to find to write about those kind of things: n o p e ..

MAD – 802.11b Wireless

Sometimes when I read articles I can become very mad. Especially when I see failures of other people. GRMBL. Today I read an article about wireless were I am quoted way out of line . That dude does not know anything about wireless. I’m a little pissed. Standard Atmel/Intersil solutions under XP do work flawlessly. Okay Intersil does not follow the 802.11x rules of Microsoft XP but it does work. Only use the correct SSID and correct network settings and it must be working. Within 5 minutes !!

If there is interest I can make some nice firmware public. 1.4i1 for a Atmel AccessPoint Solution or version 1.3.4 firmware (not the 8c3) for PC-Card intersil 2.0 PRISM chipset solution. Working almost out of the box under XP/W2K or 98/ME. With cool features for XP and solving a number of bugs. Cause no product is ever bug-free.

The problem Í have with people writing an article about those kind of stuff is that they get an assignment, try to find some sources and than try to write an article without knowing what they really do.

But okay.. that’s life. That’s work. That’s business. Next time: better luck.
Tomorrow it is Tuesday. Mondays do suck always.

Wannahaves

Yesterday you could see an Item at Wannahaves about my work. They did not use the part when I was in the picture (phew). Oh b.t.w. I’m totally not into PC’s or other desktop stuff. I’m into communication(s). .. So maybe that will make clear why I’m talking about ‘ Wireless, ADSL and other stuff ;-)

Back to Work

Back to work today after a weekend of fun, good food and some birthday parties.

Still thinking why Crontab cannot work ;-(
The News site is working flawlessly (if I use the cron job manually). Thinking about changing the layout.

Testing here the crontab is not possible cause my shh telnet does not function through the proxy at work. But I still invite people to give me some hints ;-)

TV Show

Today a TV-Camera Crew will visit our office. They will record a 3 minute long item about our company. It’s about something you wanna have. It will be broadcasted 2 or 3 weeks from now at a dutch TV station. Will I be in it: Yes, but it’s not something I really want. Lucky as I am it’s a non speaking role ;-)

:: Update ::
I’m back to work again. It went pretty fast the shoot.
Maybe I will publish a number of pictures taken of the TV shootage today.

In search for

In search for some interesting new links, not the one you will find everywhere, I contacted some contacts I have abroad. Mainly people from Taiwan. I do business with them every day and every year I see them personally at the Cebit or sometimes they visit our office. So in search for some new links I asked Felix to send me some of his favorites.
So a funny mail came into my mailbox:
“Sorry, our Firewall Gateway is implementing Content Filtering (URL Blocking), so I can not surf on web sites that are too “interesting” now! :)
Anyway, there is a good, though less interesting, web site I
would like to show you: http://www.npm.gov.tw/

If you can endure such “boring” web site, I will show you more! :)”

LOL … Laughing Out Loud.
