v01.16.05
Fix Shoutcast issue (error 301 solved)
Improve the performance for Youtube
New: Support DTS/AC3/WMA/AAC S/PDIF setting in the Setup menu (S/PDIF RAW or PCM)

Music (OGG/FLAC Audio) is selected automatically for PCM

Released to beta-testers

Update: I got some good feedback today where some beta testers report that they cannot alter any setting in the Audio Menu and have as a result of this no output to their amplifier anymore. This kind of feedback is very very welcome !

Update 2: it’s confirmed that in some circumstances the audio options are greyed out. This is fixed in a next firmware release. A workaround for now is to reset the device to factory defaults.

CH3SNAS & Debian: Yes, it’s possible but not for everyone

A lot of people use Fun_Plug to run alternative scripts on the CH3SNAS including the ability to run Debian from USB.

a few months back I donated 2 CH3SNAS to the people of Debian to make the CH3SNAS supported for the version ‘Lenny’ of Debian.

The following link will give you a complete install procedure to get rid off the normal CH3SNAS firmware and have the flash using an alternative firmware. Please note that this is not for pussies and certainly not for users without the ability to create a serial console and Linux knowledge

The alternative firmware will install an installer by default to partition and format your disks & install Debian’s Lenny. The only issue for me not using the firmware is that if your HDD is crashing you brick your device.

There must be someone working on putting OE in flash and then boot Debian with kexec, than the device could be saved or instead of putting OE in flash, put the installer in flash and something that will boot Debian. And if there is no disk, then boot the installer. It’s a nice idea, but it does not  exist currently (as I quote Martin Michlmayr  freely)If you have experience and you want to play: as long as the device is running, SSH is working and you can mount a USB stick you can refer to the original stock firmware by using this how-to

Above has been tested last week by me. A lot of of work has to be done by the Debian group to have more functions and recovery options enabled.

I only advise people to test it with a non production box and when you have enough experience.

MediaGiant News: Save your settings before firmware upgrade

Using a Conceptronic Mediagiant and you want to save your settings before a firmware upgrade? Here is how you can do it

A forced firmware upgrade is deleting all settings, but with a script it is possible to save the information. (and possible it will allow you to do more things).

1. Copy the shooting.sh file to an USB Flash Drive (use link to save the file)
2. Insert USB Flash Drive into the MediaGiant
3. Goto the Copy page  and focus on the shooting.sh file
4. Push on your remote the GOTO button and than push the REPEAT button  (you see 2x the invalid icon) the configuration is being backupped.
5. The device will be rebooting, after the reboot than you can do the firmware upgrade.
6. When firmware upgraded is finished, please go into  the Copy page and focus on shooting.sh again
7. push on your remote control the GOTO button thanpush REPEAT button the configuration is restored, device will reboot

Please be noticed: the script is creating a ‘VenusSetup.dat’ file on your HDD, you have to REMOVE  after your settings are restored.Cause if exist a next time it will use that file for your settings. Even if you have made changes afterwards
