LANDISK: NAS-BASIC48

Just got a confirmation from my contacts: RDC has released NAS-BASIC48 to vendor(s) no loader change. The NAS-BASIC48 has been released to fix Microsoft Vista bugs.

indeed in the webinterface there is mention of wget stuff, but there is no function addressed to it yet. Even the release notes of RDC does not mention it

I am waiting for the files now, so that I can release it asap.

I’ve released the NAS-BASIC48.. (not tested yet. Probably later today)

firmware tested, the wget stuff is bogus as the cgi is not included (probably also too big to be included into the memory and maybe this html is also used for the 2891 chipset

New is in the GUI that there is now more info aobut the HDD inserted.

Extra disk info: – FW: wx. “3.AAE” – SN: ex. “5LS3AG02”

Update information for RDC2882 chipset: this chipset will be phased out Q1 2008. Af from today the latest version of the firmware is the latest one(s) available from my website http://www.aroundmyroom.com/landisk

total focus of RDC is now the RDC2891 and from Q2 2008 the RDC2892 chipset

  1. Hey

    Any increase on FTP transfer speed yet? Still awfully slow for 100mbit.

    Awesome work for posting the firmware.

    Phil

  2. phil,

    do not expect changes in transfer speed. the CPU is 16 bit. it’s running on low mhz .. so you cannot expect it will have 5 to 12MB/s. We reach 3.7MB/s not higher ..

    if you want to have higher speeds let’s say: 7 to 8MB/s than you need to have the successor of the 2882 chipset the 2891 ..

    I’ve a sample and that one is getting those speeds. But for the 2882: it’s lowcost so cheap so this is the speed you are paying for.

    Sorry

    Hallo Dennis!

    We are using a NAS with Firmware NAS-BASIC48, LOADER 67. Is it possible to get a modified Firmware with a special entry in the smb.conf?

    We want to use the NAS as a Fileserver for our application. We are using DBF as Database-Files. Several Clients want to access these files so have to be locked.
    The Samba-Config-File must have the following lines:

    strict locking = yes
    veto oplock files = /*.DBF/*.dbf/*.MDX/*.mdx
    oplock break contention limit = 0
    oplocks = no

    Can you modify the firmware or can you tell us a way, how to modify the firmware

    Best Regards

    Nils

    Hmm…
    Maybe the next chipset is aiming to be something like a network settopbox or a router or something like this.

    Would be possible that this kernel is derived from the new chipset code branch and it got some some hint about what is coming next.
    I wonder…

    BTW is the kernel gzipped too?

  5. the next chipset is 2891 and has UPnP (only XBOX !)
    and has better (up to 4 / 6 MB/s write/read speed)
    I’ve the PCB here, the loader, the kernel+web
    no compatible with 2882 ..

    I even have the SourceCode as parts is GNU/GPL but it cannot be released yet by me.

    HAllo Dennis,

    Dank,

    Martijn

    All the firmware version have problem with file time stamps: I use a mirroring software (Mirrorfolder) and when I syncronize source with target in NAS system the files have no date or a strange date (01/01/1601) so it’s impossible to syncronyze, and the sw recopy everyting

  8. Peter says:

    I have just bought a Venus NAS.

    1. Can your updates be applied to this (the status page reports “Firmware Version NAS-BASIC45, LOADER 67” so I think they can?

    2.To upgrade do I just download chd3lan48-fix.bin and use the firmware upload page to load this?

    3. The only problem I’ve found so far is in writing a 17GB file. I note in another website’s notes that as at V44 the max size was 16GB and no further notes of increase. Can any of the newer versions support larger files?

  9. Peter,

    1. Yes if the chipset is 2882 it could, but hey: do it at your own risk

    2. Yes, but keep in mind that you first update the loader to 69 before uploading any kernel/web interface

    3. FAT32 by default only supports <4GB with some trick you can use >4GB but I do not advise it at all ..

  10. Martijn: i have no idea about zonealarm, it’s a firewall alike tool so it blocks everything and you have to unblock it. No direct issue of the device

  11. Damian says:

    Peter, how did you get on? I have the same NAS as you and am looking to upgrade too.

    What would be great is some kind of log to monitor access to the FTP server…

  12. Onur says:

    Hello Dennis,

    I have uploaded the firmware you have provided to my RDC R2882-G based Flexy NAS-347 (I think all models are based on the same chipset)

    It worked like a charm! Now, I can connect to my LANDISK with my laptop loaded with Vista Home Premium.

    However, I need to mention something: The protected (with a password) directories doesn’t work on Vista. Well, I have no problems :) I have nothing to hide :P

    Thanks again for your uploads.

    Regards,

    Onur

  13. Nils says:

    Hi Dennis!

    Do you have contacts of the manufacturer of the landisks? Can you please email me the answer?

    Best Regards from Berlin

    Nils

  14. Dave says:

    The password protected directories work on vista if you use the LanDisk name as the login.
    Example

    Workgroup = WORKGROUP
    Share name = STORAGE-AAAA
    Password = admin

    So when vista asks for the username and password type in:-
    Username = WORKGROUP\STORAGE-AAAA
    Password = admin

  15. Dave says:

    The password protected directories work on vista if you use the LanDisk name as the login and change the following registry entry from 3 to 1. (3 is NTLMv2 required and 1 is NTLMv2 if available)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel

    Note, click on the LSA folder to see the LMCompatibilityLevel and then right click it to modify from 3 to 1

    Login example

    Workgroup = WORKGROUP
    Share name = STORAGE-AAAA
    Password = admin

    So when vista asks for the username and password type in:-
    Username = WORKGROUP\STORAGE-AAAA
    Password = admin

    Hi all, I have a netstore 3500 from PB (never thought I would buy something of these guys ! :-) ) Can I use the NAS-BASIC48 ?

  17. Rob says:

    Dear Dennis!

    One question: how can I share the files in the root of the drive to the network? I am using the landisk to record from MPEGs with my DVB-S receiver through the USB port, and the box puts these in the root of the disk. When I access it trhough lan, I am unable to see them. Also not possible to share the root from the web interface.

    Any ideas on how to hack this, or make it work somehow? Thanks in advace for your time.

  18. RDC is using PUBLIC ..
    and from the public folder you can share the parts
    putting files direct in the root is normally not a good option
    I’ve not seen any alternatives other than using a batch / cron job replacing / copying files.

  19. Rob says:

    Is there a chance to run a batch / cron job replacing / copying files on the LanDisk? I’d be satisfied with that too. Even if not cron job, a simple command, to move files from Root to PUBLIC would be more than enough: could a button on the web interface, start such a command?

    Because if so, I’d jus log into the web interface, click the button manually, and afterwards have the files in the share. Great idea! Would it be possible?

  20. Laci says:

    I’d be interested in that too! Is it possible to move all the file files (*.*) from root to \PUBLIC, with a button from the web interface? How difficult could that be?

    I’m good at html and php, any ideas how to trigger this?

  21. hi guys,

    has someone ever noticed that when browsing the directorys sometimes they seem to be empty while u know they’re not !
    After hitting multiple times F5/refresh then ups there they are !

    very annoying to backup files, as it will just not copy them !

  22. Oliver says:

    Timestamp problem
    Have upgraded a Sitecom MD-250 to NAS-BASIC48, LOADER 69 in the hope to solve the timestamp problem. Each file copied over the lan get the current date and time instead keeping the original one. Maybe only a setting problem. Is a firmware available which handles the timestamp in the correct fashion?

  23. Hi,

    I see you have mentioned RDC 2891 firmware. Do you have a copy that works correctly with Vista? Vista seems to disconnect from the nas drive firmware version:

    NAS2890-008 LOADER 3.2

    Its a right pain for a new Christmas present !!!

    Merry Christmas

    yours

    Hi there.

    Just to let you know that I own a Mentor Sharing Drive (made by Bona and RDC R-2882 Based) and I successfully updated to NAS-BASIC48 LOADER 69 with the files found here:
    http://www.aroundmyroom.com/landisk/nas-basic48/

    It worked ok from the first time and I’m quite happy with it. :)

    Btw, I don’t care that the box now says Conceptronic… ;)

    Thanks for a nice share and a Happy New 2008. :)

    Gil

  25. Oliver says:

    SoftGil:
    This version works ok and the gui is also nice, but it still have the timestamp problem. Could not find a version which handles this in the correct way.

    Hallo Dennis,

    bedankt

    I have a maplin NS347 landisk on my local lan which I am unable to access vi the web interface.

    I have upgraded using quick-tools to firmware v48 on win xpsp2. Quicktools says the drive is called STORAGE-BACKUP. I open the web browser to STORAGE-BACKUP or STORAGE or the IP address proved by my router 192.168.X.X and up pops a username/password box. I fill in admin/admin – no luck. Comes back with a pinkish page which says 401 authorizaton required.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,

    I loaded your http://www.aroundmyroom.com/landisk/rdc2891/kernel-s2891-010b1.rar into my “Mediasonic” RDC2891 NAS which was previously running: NAS2890-008 LOADER 3.2

    Now, it appears to be bricked. The upgrade claimed to be successful through the GUI but the device never came back up.

    For some strange reason, I can ping 169.254.0.1 but there is no Web interface there. I used the “Quick Update” utility to try a variety of firmware files to recover but they all fail except the one that corrupted the file in the first place.

    Now, when I try to load kernel-s2891-010b1.bin again through Quick Update, the process completes successfully but then the PING replies go from 1ms to about 3 full seconds. When the device is rebooted, the ping is restored to normal and I’m back to square one.

    The USB portion appears unaffected. Using tftp to the device fails with a timeout.

    Is there anyway to restore the thing to its original state? This all started when I wanted Mac OSX 10.5 compatibility.

    Thanks.

    Thanks!

    I used your firmware to update my Eagle | Consus W-Series External Storage System ET-CSWNASU2-BK to NAS-BASIC48 and it resolved my Vista access issues.

    Many thanks!

    Does anyone have the original firmware that ships with the 2891? No one carries this anywhere!

    If you view the .BIN file and it begins with “RDC Semiconductor” then it is a 2882 module and it won’t work for a 2891.

    I’m pulling my hair out trying to fix this thing, any help is appreciated!

    how can I compile the latest Version (NAS-BASIC48b6 Loader 0.70) with the nice “Viper-NAS” Webinterface?

  36. Lokkju says:

    It sounds like there is some indication that the firmware is based on Linux. can you confirm this? If so, then where the hell is the required source code? Or are they yet another GPL violator?

  37. nope, it’s not linux .. although they seem to use a GPL dhcp something .. for the 2882 (EOL chipset) .. for the 2891 I have sources online

    Hi guys, I recently aquired a HD9-SU2LAH (NAS2890-008 LOADER 3.2), can ne1 please tell me if an updated firmware is available for this model. Also I noticed on my network that the nas drive seems to give all read/write abilities, Is there a way I can make all the files read only except when I FTP in with a password?

  39. Its nice to see a few people like my interface. =D

    Thos of you who havnt seenit, you can see screen shots and grab the latest version (v1.3) from here: http://viperfang.net/vipernas

    Dennis, please could you add a link to my site from the vipernas folder? I have a link to you, hopefully people will find everything they need between us!

    I’ve been very happy with this enclosure, Im running NAS-BASIC48B6, LOADER 70, Vipernas v1.3. Mine is actually from sumvision, but never had any problems.

    Any feedback from users of ViperNAS is welcome. You can contact me via my website (http://viperfang.net). I am happy to correct any mistakes or apply any updates that may be needed.
