Leaving Servage Hosting

After more than 1 year running some of my sites on Servage websites I will stop using them very very soon.

What is the main reason why they suck?

Their support is usesless: issues are not addressed and are kicked back at you telling that your scripts are not ok.

In the last 2 months I have noticed many index.html, index.php files modified with malcious scripts. I noted that a new FTP account suddenly was created and that Hackers from Russia/Ukrain were accessing it.

It took me lot of effort to fix all the files.

My scripts are save, My sites are save. But as they get too easily access to my root I cannot do anything about it. The only thing to solve this issue: leaving servage!

So I am seeking a new simple payable hoster for a lot of files & adult stuff .. Bandwidth must not be a problem, Mysql must be present and unlimited (servage has hidden limitations they do not tell you when you subscribe)

@ servage: not more than 350.000 hits a day can be made. With a normal website this means only about 4000 visitors can access your site than the hits are gone. Mysql: per hour only x sql queries may be made. And if you thought there is no limitation for GB’s per day; yes they have also limitation of around 160GB data a day.

So hidden limitations, hackers can do freely what they want cause logging is bad @ servage and they stick their heads in the sand when customers complain.

Servage; if you want to keep your business you have to do something about it !

Request for comments: CH3SNAS

I’ve 2 bugs submitted to the dev team about CH3SNAS:

Clock drift ‘ ; this issue was not ‘reproduced’ by the dev. team. I need a clear description how the bug can be found and/or reproduced. They used for more than 10 days the command rtc -r and date to check the time and saw no issues. Please do not drop it in the comments but e-mail me.

NTP bug: it’s difficult to test, can someone try to give a more clear way to test like:

  • 1. exact time
  • 2. Nas display time with GMT+1 and no DST
  • 3. Nas display time with GMT+12 and EU DST
  • 4. NAS display time with GMT and No DST
  • 5. NAS dislay time with GMT and no EU DST

The more info the better. Please submit your help to my e-mail address.

CH3SNAS with Squeezecenter / Squeezebox howto

Some persons asked me if it is possible to have SqueezeCenter running at the CH3SNAS

After long time writing: nope, it’s not possible we finally have a howto how the CH3SNAS can work easily (kuch) with SqueezeCenter 7.2

The correct installation you can find here, please notice the 4.2.3 section where the DBD::MYSQL package needs to be installed, you have to use the alternative compile option. the normal Perl Makefile.PL rule is not compiling on the CH3SNAS, you need the longer rule with alternative references to the libraries (libs).

When you follow this walktrough completely you have a working SqueezeCenter software server running at your CH3SNAS. A big thanks to Yannick for his great howto

note: you need to create a squeezecenter user on the CH3SNAS otherwise you cannot chown certain files.

Right now 8 episodes have been aired. So I’ve something to catch-up with. Check the TV.com website of Flashpoint and the official CBS website of Flashpoint
